Passmores’ College Newcastle Management Course students are well into their year and have already had the opportuniy to participate in a number of course-related excursions.

In week two of our media/marketing students’ course, they had the chance to view Oscar winning movie The Kings Speech in the luxury of the newly constructed Reading Cinemas Gold Lounge at Charlestown Square. Our Newcastle Management Course students reclined in the leather chairs and had food served to them by employees as they took in, and evaluated, the sights and sounds of the movie and their surroundings. Once back at College, The Kings Speech excursion was the basis for a discussion in both the Media Theory and Marketing subjects.

The following week, Passmores’ Newcastle Management Course students had another excursion – this time to local television station NBN. Students received a tour of the station, seeing behind the scenes of the different areas of NBN, from the archives to editing. Students had the fantastic opportunity to view a live news update being broadcasted and had the chance to meet and talk to NBN news broadcaster Paul Lobb about his career.

Such excursions help to ‘practically’ supplement the work Passmores’ students are undertaking in the extensive subject range for their major, which includes: media theory, journalism, advertising and marketing. Later this year, the students in the media/marketing major will also be visiting various media outlets in Newcastle, such as NXFM Radio Station, Peach Advertising and the Newcastle Herald. In the past, Passmores’ students have been inspired by these excursions and have gone on to do work placement with these organisations at the culmination of the course. Many of these organisations have even offered our ‘job ready’ Newcastle Management Course graduates permanent positions.

For more information on Passmores’ double diploma Newcastle Management Course in Business Management / Marketing, Media & Journalism, please see the course content page of our website.

The development of an effective Management Course requires a lot of thought, partly because a good manager needs to be skilled in so many areas. A list of managerial skills would include:

Integrity – someone who says what they think and does what they say they’ll do.

People skills

Analytical, administrative and organisational abilities

Team leader

Communication – it’s crucial for a manager to be able to aid the flow of communication and make it clear and effective

Time management

IT skills

At Passmores’ we’ve taken the time to construct a Management Course in Newcastle which incorporates tasks and information specifically designed to develop students in the skills listed above.

For example, to develop team leadership, we place the students in groups to complete different tasks to teach them to work together and to enable leadership skills. Students find the team work very challenging but, as the year progresses, they realise the importance of the skills they’re learning.

As part of our Management Course we also emphasise the importance of time management and force the students to tackle this skill by giving them an intense work schedule which they can only cope with if they manage their time efficiently.

To develop communication skills we require the students to complete regular presentations which they are evaluated on and provided with feedback, to help them develop their confidence and public presence. They are also required to submit written work in synopsis form which helps them to perfect their ability to concisely relay information.

Finally, we stress the importance of ‘integrity’ in all our classes and encourage the students to conduct themselves in an ethical manner.

At Passmores’ we believe we’ve taken the time to develop a comprehensive, interesting and applicable Management Course.

If you’d be interested in finding out more about this Newcastle-based management course, please contact us.

It is often said that it is hard to find good office staff. Why? Because office work isn’t as easy as people like to think; it takes a certain personality type to be able to complete the work well. Which is why at Passmores’, we offer a well rounded Office Administration Course, specifically designed to equip our graduates to succeed in the work force.

The Passmores’ Office Administration Course, based in Newcastle, combines Office Management, Computer Studies, Keyboard Skills, Human Resource Management, Career Management, Public Relations and Event Management.

These subjects aim to develop professionalism in our office administrators, as people will often look to them for guidance and assistance and as the ‘face of the organisation’. It’s best to gain the respect of others by being professional in every way: the way you talk and express yourself, the way you treat people and the way you dress to come to the office.

Through plenty of teamwork the students also develop the ability to be patient. An Office Administrator needs to have patience, as there will be times when you must overcome obstacles and remain calm in situations that will frustrate you.

Over the years we’ve heard so many employers say the same thing. They want staff who are friendly and outgoing, who have an eye for detail, who have a great phone manner and who are keen to get the job done well. We’ve responded by developing a diploma that focuses on developing all of these areas.

Passmores’ Newcastle Office Administration Course can be intense and demanding at times, but the effort required will be rewarded through great job placements at the completion of the diploma. Students will be exposed to excellent career prospects because they will deliver what Passmores’ promises.

Please contact us for more information.

Is now a good time to pursue a career in Real Estate? This is an important question for anyone wanting to enter the industry. Firstly, the most important factor to assess is whether or not you really want to follow a career in Real Estate.

For students wanting to enrol in Passmores’ Real Estate Course, Newcastle we would pose the following type of questions in a career choice interview:

Do you enjoy working with others?

Do you like to set your own schedule?

Do you want a career with high income potential?

Do you like to interact with a lot of different people?

If potential candidates could answer yes to these questions then a real estate career might be an ideal fit for them.

Students who complete our Real Estate Course are setting themselves up for a flexible career that fits with their lifestyle. As a Real Estate Agent you get to set your own hours, work outside of a traditional office setting and experience high-income potential. You will interact with many different people and be part of a team.

Pundits are suggesting that now is as good a time as any to toss your hat into the ring. Our advice for any new agent is to remain committed to education and training and look for an agency that would support you working with a mentor. As such, we have tailored our Real Estate Course to incorporate practical experience which enables students to develop a support network and make contacts within the industry.

Passmores’ Real Estate Course, Newcastle also provides students with a general business background by combing Real Estate subjects with Business Management subjects, endeavouring to equip our graduates with the tools necessary to really succeed in a sales-oriented industry.

Make the decision to start a flexible, convenient and lucrative career today – now’s as good a time as any! Please contact us for more information about Passmores’ real estate course.

Term one has flown by and now Passmores’ Business College students are busy settling into term two.

Passmores’ takes pride in offering Newcastle courses that prepare students for the realities of the workforce. A big component of succeeding in the business sector involves time management and team work. As a result, term one was a big learning curve for our students, as they learnt to grapple with these issues through a steady flow of assignments, tests, team work and presentations. The students were glad to take a well earned break at the end of term one!

The atmosphere at Passmores’ Business College, as term two swings into action, is one of positive energy as the students gear up for another busy term. There is a happy buzz, as students realise that they can get through it and are already equipped with some well learnt lessons from term one.

All the best guys, we know you can do it!

As we say goodbye to our 2009 Business College students, we start looking forward to meeting next year’s intake.

Our Newcastle Hospitality Course is always popular! It is an interesting and varied course which looks at training Newcastle students in both theoretical and practical elements of Hospitality. Students enjoy learning about Front Office Operations, Human Resource Management, Computer Studies and International Tourism Theory. The students also greatly benefit from practical subjects like Event Management where they, along with the other majors of Marketing Media and Legal/Real Estate, actually organize a fundraising event and have the satisfaction of presenting a cheque to their chosen charity. Always a highlight of the year!

The Newcastle Hospitality Course also includes excursions where students get to see how the large hotels work behind the scenes and includes the option to travel overseas and have an international experience.

So, if you’ve ever wondered about a career in hospitality, now’s the time to act. We would love you to be one of our 2010 Business College students.

Craig goes the Distance!

Congratulations Craig on graduating with a Distinction Diploma in the Event Management course. He is the very first student to enrol in the new Distance Learning Program correspondence course which opened for enrolments in 2008.

Even though the college has trained thousands of students over the years, Craig is our first to graduate through correpondence studies. Craig’s results were outstanding and he also wowed staff and charity groups when he solely raised over $ 2996.10 for ‘First Chance’, as part of his Event Management course assignment.

“I really enjoyed putting what I learned into practice” as well as “helping the charities to raise funds”. Craig is feeling super confident and ready to pursue the career in Events.

Well done on great results!
